Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you meet up for training?
The address of the training venue is 17 Bank St, Pyrmont, near the corner of Quarry Masters Drive. Enter the gates and look out for the black, white and rainbow training tops some of our members are wearing.
What time should I get there?
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time on your first session, as we'll need you to fill out a waiver form and give you the quick how-to-paddle introduction. If you're coming to one of our weekday sessions that's 6:20pm, and 7:05am on our Saturday morning session.
What happens during a training session?
Training sessions are varied and designed to help paddlers of all levels to build strength and fitness. In addition to an on-land and on-water warm up, expect everything from resistance work to endurance drills to practice race starts in preparation for racing.
What should I wear when paddling?
Most of our club members tend to wear clothing that is quick-drying, breathable and water sports appropriate (you will get wet!). Some form of anti-slip shoes / closed in sandals for footwear (maybe not your favourite trainers - they will get wet!).
What should I bring?
Just yourself and a bottle of water to take onto the boat. The club has a selection of paddles of varying sizes, for new members of all heights and body types to use when they're starting out.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Even though the dragon boat is very unlikely to capsize, if you are not able to swim 50m (or if you are not confident in the water), you will need to wear a life jacket.
