Training with Different Strokes
Training sessions are varied and designed to help paddlers of all levels to build strength and fitness. In addition to an on-land and on-water warm up, expect everything from resistance work to endurance drills to practice race starts in preparation for racing.
Training Schedule
- Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.30 - 8.00 pm
- Saturdays 7.00 - 9.00am
We train at 17 Bank St, Pyrmont, near the corner of Quarry Masters Drive.
Arrive 10 minutes before training start time on your first training session to fill out a waiver form and to get a quick how-to-paddle introduction from one of our coaches.
What to wear
- fitness clothes or clothes you are comfortable to be wet in
- enclosed shoes (no thongs please) for wearing on the boat
What to bring
- water/water bottle [we advise against having soft drink during training]
- towel and change of clothes
- sunscreen
The club has a selection of paddles of varying sizes, for new members of all heights and body types to use when they're starting out.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Although the dragon boat is unlikely to capsize, if you are not able to swim 100m (or if you are not confident in the water), you may bring and wear a life jacket on the boat.
